Quick Answers
Moruya Golf Club at a glance
Moruya Golf Club sits on the edge of Moruya town, beside the showground and racecourse, a short drive inland from the beaches at Moruya Heads. The club describes its layout as a championship 18-hole course kept in good condition all year, and it has hosted the PGA Australia NSW/ACT State Championships in 2021 and 2022 and the NSW South Coast Open in 2020 and 2021.
For a holiday golfer the important part is simple: you do not need to be a member. Social golf runs seven days a week, competition golf runs six days, and visitors can book a tee time online through the club's public booking page or by calling the office.

Moruya Golf Club green fees and hire costs
Moruya's green fees are set by day of the week and season. The weekend rate also applies to every day of summer, which the club defines as December to February. Nine holes cost the same at any time.
| When you play | 18 holes | 9 holes |
|---|---|---|
| Midweek | $60 | $35 |
| Weekend | $70 | $35 |
| Summer, December to February | $70 | $35 |
If you are travelling light, you can leave the clubs at home. The club hires sets for $20 for nine holes or $30 for 18, pull buggies for $5, and motorised carts with GPS for $30 for nine holes or $50 for 18.
Worked example: eight friends, one round of 18 holes. These are the club's listed prices; the cart figure assumes two players share each cart, so confirm with the pro shop when you book.
| Item | Weekend round | Midweek round |
|---|---|---|
| Green fees, 8 players | 8 × $70 = $560 | 8 × $60 = $480 |
| GPS carts, 4 carts for 18 holes | 4 × $50 = $200 | 4 × $50 = $200 |
| Total | $760 | $680 |
| Per player | $95 | $85 |
Two players who need hire clubs would add $60 between them ($30 each for 18 holes). Walking with a $5 pull buggy instead of a cart brings the per-player cost close to the green fee alone.
How visitors book a tee time at Moruya
The easiest way is the club's online public booking page, which shows available times. You can also ring the office on 02 4474 2300, which is worth doing for a group, for an early tee time or if you want to check the weekly competition schedule.
The club's weekly pattern, as listed on its golf page, helps you pick a quiet time:
Monday
Veterans 9 holes plus social play.
Tuesday and Thursday
Medley competition over 18 holes plus social play.
Wednesday
Women's 18 holes plus social play.
Friday
Social play all day, often the simplest day for a visiting group.
Saturday
Medley competition over 18 holes plus social play.
Sunday
The Eagles group from 7:30am plus social play.
The golf page does not set out a handicap requirement for a social round, but the club's opens do require one (see below). If you are new to the game, mention it when you book so the club can suggest a sensible time. Classic Capital Golf Tours' review notes that weekend tee times are relatively easy to get for tour groups; expect more demand in the summer holidays, so book early from mid-December.
What the Moruya golf course is like to play
Golf in Moruya goes back about a century. The club says it opened in 1925 as a nine-hole course with sand greens, built around the Moruya Showground and Racecourse. Well-known course architect Al Howard redesigned those nine holes with grass greens in 1966, three more holes were added between 1982 and 1984, six more followed in 1988, and the full 18 holes officially opened on 1 October 1988.
The course is still woven around the showground today. Eurobodalla Coast Tourism describes it as generally flat but deceptive, with tight fairways, doglegs, water features, sloping greens and an enormous 40-metre double green. Classic Capital Golf Tours' review adds a few useful details for first-timers:
- Racecourse Creek and its ponds come into play on several holes, so a layup is often the smart shot.
- The 9th and 18th share the big double green, which makes for long putts if your approach drifts.
- The reviewer rates the greens among the fastest on the South Coast.
- Heavy rain on top of a high king tide can flood the low parts of the course for a day or two, so check with the club after a big storm.
Eurobodalla Coast Tourism's tip for Moruya: prepare for long putts after a wayward approach, and play it as a thinking golfer's course.
For a holiday round, that means leave the driver in the bag on the tighter holes, take a GPS cart if the group wants the yardages, and allow time for a drink on the terrace afterwards.
Moruya Golf Club opens and events, November to December 2026
Between mid-November and early December the club runs three open events. The two opens list non-member entry fees, and the Summer Classic takes team entries. Here is what the club's 2026 golf calendar and entry forms list.
| Event | Dates | Format | Entry |
|---|---|---|---|
| Women's Open (listed as the Moruya Ladies Open on the club calendar) | Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November 2026 | Saturday 4BBB 18-hole Stableford from 8:30am; Sunday 18-hole individual stroke, shotgun start 8:30am | $30 a day for non-members, $20 a day for members; entries close 5pm Wednesday 4 November 2026 |
| Men's and Seniors Open | Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November 2026 | Stroke both days, tee times 7:30am–12:30pm | $80 for non-members, $50 for members, for both days |
| Summer Classic | Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December 2026 | 3 Person Ambrose, tee times 7:30am–12:30pm | $225 per team of three |
| Boxing Day Stableford | Saturday 26 December 2026 | Individual Stableford | Check with the club |
The Women's Open is played in divisions based on Golf Australia handicaps, with a visitor's trophy and a veteran's trophy for non-trophy winners. The Men's and Seniors Open is for male amateurs who belong to an affiliated club and hold a current verifiable handicap. Entries for both need full payment, and the club says no spots are held without it. Send entries to events@moruyagolfclub.com.au or drop them at reception, and book carts early on the busy weekends.
The Summer Classic is the most relaxed of the three for a group of friends: in an Ambrose each player hits and the team plays on from the best shot, so mixed abilities work well. Entry details are on the Summer Classic entry page, and the Women's Open and Men's and Seniors Open have their own pages.
The clubhouse, bistro and 19th hole
After the round, the clubhouse is the obvious stop. The club lists its bistro as open seven days, with the cafe from 9:00am, lunch from 11:30am to 2:30pm and dinner from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, and last orders 15 minutes before closing. Tables can be booked online from the club's dining page.
One timely note: in late October 2026 the club's homepage said the restaurant was closed for renovations and would reopen on Tuesday 27 October. Check that the kitchen is open before you plan a post-round meal there in the first week.
Happy hour
Listed daily: $5 tap beer, $6 house wines, $7 boutique tap beer.
Courtesy bus
Door-to-door pick-up and drop-off, Tuesday to Saturday. Ask whether it reaches Moruya Heads when you book.
Sunday trivia
First Sunday of each month from 6:00pm, which makes 1 November and 6 December the next two.
For a group dinner, the courtesy bus means nobody has to be the driver.
Golf lessons, beginners and juniors in Moruya
A holiday is a good time to fix a slice. The pro shop opens at 7:00am daily and is run by PGA professional Andrew Booth, who offers lessons, club fitting and corporate golf days. The club lists these prices:
- 30-minute private lesson: $60
- 9-hole playing lesson: $180
- Mixed clinic on Fridays at 10:00am: $20
The Friday clinic is a low-cost way for a partner or teenager to try the game before joining the group for nine holes. Junior clinics run on Tuesdays from 3:30pm to 4:30pm for ages 5 to 15 in beginner and advanced groups, and the club is registered with Golf Australia's MyGolf program. These are regular weekly clinics, so call the pro shop if you want to book a holiday lesson for a child.
Club Tuross: nine holes with lake and ocean views
About 25 minutes south of Moruya Heads, Club Tuross at Tuross Head has a nine-hole course with double tees, so you can play a full 18. The club promises views of the mountains, lake and sea, and Eurobodalla Coast Tourism calls it one of the most scenic nine-hole courses on the South Coast.
| Club Tuross item | Listed price |
|---|---|
| 9 holes | $30 |
| 18 holes | $40 |
| Cart hire (over 18), 9 or 18 holes | $30 or $40 |
| Pull buggy | $10 |
| Club hire | $25 |
Visitors are welcome at set times. The club lists the course as available all day on Monday, Friday and Sunday, from 1:00pm on Tuesday, 11:00am on Wednesday, 2:30pm on Thursday and 3:00pm on Saturday, and says times may change if a special event is booked. Book by calling 02 4473 8186.
Club Tuross also has three bowling greens and takes bookings for barefoot bowls, which gives the non-golfers in your group something to do on the same visit, and its restaurant looks out over the ocean. Details are on the Club Tuross golf page.
Tommo Golf at Tomakin: par 3, mini golf and a driving range
Tommo Golf, at 2152 George Bass Drive, Tomakin, is about 25 minutes north of Moruya Heads and is the pick for families or a mixed group. It has a par 3 course, an 18-hole mini golf course and an aqua driving range in one place.
Par 3 course
$25 for 9 holes, $40 for 18. Club and buggy hire available.
Mini golf
$15 a person, or $40 for a family of two adults and two children; $15 for each extra person.
Aqua driving range
$6 for 20 balls, club hire $6. Mini golf and range combo $20 a person.
The website says it is open every day from 8:00am to 4:30pm, though its contact section lists 4:00pm, so ring 0455 400 112 if you are heading over late. Children under 16 need a parent with them on the driving range. Smokey Dan's restaurant is right next door for lunch. See Tommo Golf for current prices.
Day trips for keen golfers: Catalina and Narooma
Two of the region's best-known courses are a longer drive but make a good second round on a golf weekend.
Catalina Club, Batemans Bay (about 35 minutes)
The golf course Eurobodalla Coast Tourism lists for Batemans Bay, Catalina Club at 154 Beach Road, has a 27-hole championship course in three nines, set along the Bhundoo-Clyde River estuary under she-oaks. The club says the course is home to hundreds of kangaroos, and a grey-headed flying fox camp sits between the 26th and 4th holes from October to May. Visitor green fees are not listed on its website, so book through the club on 02 4472 4022 or info@catalinaclub.com.au.
Narooma Golf Club (about 45 minutes)
Narooma's clifftop course on Ballingalla Street is famous for its ocean holes. Golf Australia describes the opening holes as links-style along the clifftops, and the par-3 3rd, known as Hogan's Hole, asks you to carry the ocean to the green. Eurobodalla Coast Tourism's advice is to pack spare balls. Check fees and tee times on the Narooma Golf Club website.
Closer in, The Oaks Ranch at Mossy Point (about 25 minutes) has a nine-hole course listed by Eurobodalla Coast Tourism as open from dawn to dusk and suited to all levels. Ring ahead to confirm it is open for visitors.

When to plan a golf weekend at Moruya
Late spring is a sweet spot. Moruya's midweek and weekend rates still apply in November, the opens bring a buzz to the clubhouse, and the beaches are warming up for the non-golfers. From 1 December the summer rate of $70 for 18 holes applies every day until the end of February.
The NSW summer school holidays for the Eastern division run from Friday 18 December 2026 to Wednesday 27 January 2027, according to the NSW Government. That is when tee times, restaurants and holiday houses fill fastest, so book the round and the stay together if you are coming then.
Simple rule: for a quiet course, aim for a Friday, or a midweek day that is not a competition morning. For atmosphere, pick an open weekend in November or the Summer Classic on 5–6 December.
What the non-golfers can do while you play
A golf weekend works best when everyone else has a good morning too. From Moruya Heads, three beaches are within a five-minute walk and the Moruya River mouth is close by.
- Beach mornings: Moruya Surf Beach, Shelly Beach and Lagoon Beach are all close by. Our Moruya Heads beaches guide covers which one suits which kind of swim.
- River time: fishing spots, boat ramps and kayak trails are in our Moruya River fishing and paddling guide.
- Saturday markets and lunch: the Moruya markets and town cafes are minutes from the golf club, so the group can meet in town afterwards. See the Moruya markets and food guide.
- Local history: the pilot station, granite and river stories are in the Moruya Heads history guide.
- Family fun: mini golf at Tommo Golf is an easy add-on for kids on the way back from Broulee or Tomakin.
Why Bertie's 3 Beaches works for a Moruya golf weekend
Bertie's 3 Beaches is a five-bedroom, three-bathroom beach house at Moruya Heads that sleeps 10, and the listing puts Moruya Golf Club about 12 minutes away by car. That short drive is the point: you can be on the first tee in the morning and back for a swim and a barbecue by mid-afternoon.
The house is set up for the part of a golf trip that happens off the course. The upstairs balcony has a barbecue, water views and a sunset bar, there is outdoor dining for 10 and a fire pit in the fenced garden, and the large kitchen and indoor dining table both cater for 10. After a damp morning round, there is an open fireplace in the lounge, central heating, and a washing machine and dryer in the laundry for wet gear. An outdoor shower takes care of sandy feet after the beach.
Getting golf bags in and out is easy too: the listing notes off-street parking at the front of the home and alternative rear driveway access, with self check-in by lockbox from 2:00pm and check-out by 10:00am. Opposite the house is Eurobodalla National Park, and Moruya Surf Beach, Shelly Beach and Lagoon Beach are all within a five-minute walk.
Where Bertie's 3 Beaches fits a Moruya golf weekend
Bertie's 3 Beaches sleeps 10 in five bedrooms at Moruya Heads, about 12 minutes by car from Moruya Golf Club, so you can play an early round and be back at the beach by the afternoon. Three beaches are within a five-minute walk and Eurobodalla National Park is opposite the house.
After golf, the group can gather on the balcony with its BBQ, water views and sunset bar, eat together at the outdoor table for 10 or around the fire pit, and dry wet gear in the laundry. Off-street parking at the front and a rear driveway make loading golf bags simple.

How a golf group fits into the house
The bedding layout matters for a golf trip, so here it is in full. Bertie's 3 Beaches has four queen bedrooms and a downstairs rumpus room with a bunk bed: Bedrooms 1, 2 and 3 are upstairs (Bedroom 1 has an ensuite), and Bedroom 4 and the bunk room are downstairs, with a downstairs bathroom in the laundry area. That suits couples, families or two or three families travelling together better than eight golfers who each want a single bed.
Golf couples weekend
Four couples take the queen rooms, with the bunk room as a spare. Two tee times of four at Moruya, then dinner at home on the balcony.
Families with a golfer or two
The golfers head out early while the rest walk to the beach. The TV and kids' playroom and the downstairs rumpus give children their own space.
Summer Classic team
A team of three plus partners and kids, all under one roof for the 5–6 December weekend.
The house is pet-friendly, so the family dog can come too; check the pet details on the listing before you book. A travel cot and high chair are always available for younger guests.
A three-day Moruya golf weekend plan
Friday: arrive and play a relaxed nine
Check in from 2:00pm, drop the bags and head to Moruya Golf Club for a late nine-hole round ($35) if tee times allow, or a bucket of balls at Tommo Golf if you are coming from the north. Back at the house, light the fire pit and cook on the balcony barbecue.
Saturday: the main round at Moruya
Take an early 18-hole tee time at Moruya Golf Club. The non-golfers can walk to Shelly Beach or browse the Saturday markets in town. Meet at the clubhouse for lunch, then spend the afternoon at the beach. If you are visiting on 14–15 November, 21–22 November or 5–6 December, this is an open or Summer Classic weekend, so book early.
Sunday: Tuross views or a big day trip
Drive about 25 minutes to Club Tuross for a scenic round (Sunday is listed as available all day; book by phone first), with barefoot bowls for anyone who would rather not play. Keen golfers might drive about 45 minutes to Narooma for Hogan's Hole instead. Check-out is by 10:00am on your last morning, so plan the long drive after you leave if it is your final day.
