Things to do in Nadi at a glance

Many lists of things to do in Nadi mix up places five minutes from the airport with islands an hour away by boat. This one starts from where you sleep. The distances below come from the Seema's Holiday Home listing, which is in the Wailoaloa Beach area between Nadi Town and the airport. Use the table to compare Nadi attractions by travel time, then read on for what to do in Nadi on each kind of day. Prices are in Fijian dollars (FJ$) and appear only where an operator or official source publishes them.

On foot: Sailors Beach and Wailoaloa Beach

The closest of all the things to do in Nadi is the beach. Sailors Beach is a 5-minute walk from the apartment, and the long Wailoaloa Beach strip runs along the same shore. It looks west over Nadi Bay, which is why the evenings are the main event here. One recent guest wrote that they "loved her little sailors beach the best" after two weeks of travelling around Fiji, and mentioned the sunsets in particular.

Be realistic about swimming. Tourism Fiji describes Wailoaloa as "better known for its lively social scene than as a top swimming spot". Lonely Planet notes calm water and says the sunset music from beachside venues can be loud, so walk further along the sand for a quieter stretch. If clear-water snorkelling is the goal, save it for an island day from Port Denarau and treat Wailoaloa as your walking, paddling and sunset beach.

Morning

Walk or jog along the sand before the heat builds. Tourism Fiji lists morning jogs, volleyball and paddling practice as everyday beach life.

Afternoon

Ask about horse riding on the beach. Tourism Fiji names Wailoaloa among its horse riding spots for the sunsets, with rides run by small community-based operators.

Evening

Happy hours and live bands are part of the beachfront routine. Bring a light layer and insect repellent for sitting out after dark.

For a full food and sunset rundown of this strip, see our Wailoaloa Beach food and sunset guide.

On foot: beachfront food, drinks and sunset spots

You do not need a car for dinner. The listing names these places within a short walk of the apartment.

Olive Tree Wailoaloa

about a 1-minute walk

The closest option to the door after a travel day.

The Wreck

about a 4-minute walk

An easy first-night choice along the beach area.

Club 57 and Bistro

about a 4-minute walk

Destinationless Travel describes a rooftop sunset happy hour here. Check the day's times when you arrive.

Urban Sugar Beach Club

about a 6-minute walk

Beach club at the Crowne Plaza Nadi Bay, which Tourism Fiji names as one of the Wailoaloa social spots.

Harvest Restaurant, Crowne Plaza Nadi Bay

about a 7-minute walk

The resort restaurant, worth booking for a special dinner. In 2025 it ran paid, book-ahead buffets on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve; the 2026 program had not been published when we checked on 27 October 2026.

The Beach Club Wailoaloa and La Bottega

about a 7-minute walk

Tourism Fiji mentions live music at the Wailoaloa Beach Club. La Bottega is a few steps further for a change of menu.

Walk times are from the listing. Opening hours vary, so check before you head out.

Nadi Town: the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple

For a first cultural stop in Nadi, start here. The Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple sits at the southern end of Nadi Town, about a 15-minute drive from Wailoaloa. Its pyramid-shaped towers are built in the Dravidian style of southern India and are covered in carved and painted figures. Fiji Traveller records that the current temple was formally consecrated on 15 July 1994, on a site that held a smaller temple before it. The central shrine is dedicated to Lord Murugan, with separate shrines to Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesh.

Temple visitor rules (as published): dress modestly with legs and shoulders covered, take your shoes off before entering, and limit photos to the outside of the temple. Fiji Traveller also notes visitors are asked to enter only if they have not eaten meat that day. Tourism Fiji says there is a small entry fee, and that guided tours run every half hour from 8:30am to 3:00pm.

Go early. Lonely Planet says early mornings are less crowded and suggests allowing about an hour. Afterwards, Tourism Fiji points to Saravana Bhavan, a vegetarian restaurant next to the temple, for dosas and curries. It is a working place of worship, so keep voices low.

The temple is at its brightest at Diwali. In 2026 the Diwali public holiday is Monday 9 November. Our Diwali in Nadi 2026 guide covers the festival in detail, and the Nadi history guide explains how the temple fits into the town's Girmit and sugar story.

Nadi Town: markets, shops and an easy lunch

Nadi Town is about 15 minutes from the apartment by car and is compact enough to explore on foot once you are there. The produce market is where locals buy taro, cassava, chillies and tropical fruit, and the handicraft market nearby sells carvings, woven mats and other souvenirs. Expect to bargain politely at the craft stalls.

Closer to home, Namaka Market is about a 6-minute drive, handy for fruit and vegetables to cook in the apartment kitchen. Our Nadi market guide has the stall-by-stall detail, so this guide keeps it short.

Food in town is good value. Tourism Fiji says a hearty meal at a local restaurant in urban areas such as Nadi can cost from FJ$10 to FJ$20. Try Indo-Fijian curries and roti, and look for kokoda, raw fish marinated in citrus with coconut cream.

Port Denarau and Denarau Island

Denarau Island is about a 12-minute drive from Wailoaloa, and Port Denarau Marina is a main departure point for island boats. Without a boat trip it still makes a half day out, with restaurants, shops, a supermarket, pharmacy and bakery.

  • Golf: Tourism Fiji notes an 18-hole championship golf course on Denarau, plus the Denarau Golf Centre and Mini Golf, an 18-hole mini golf course open daily and suited to all ages.
  • Big Bula Waterpark: Tourism Fiji describes slides of different sizes, climbing palms, obstacle courses and a gated area for toddlers, open daily. Book tickets directly or through a booking site and check the day's hours.
  • Getting around the island: the hop-on, hop-off Bula Bus loops the Denarau resorts and the marina. Check the current fare at your point of purchase.
  • Sunset at the marina: Lonely Planet suggests seafood with sunset views at the marina restaurants, a good alternative when the Wailoaloa bars are loud.

The marina's restaurants and shops also make Denarau a useful wet-day option. For a full day plan built around the island, see our Nadi stopover and Denarau day trip guide.

Sabeto Valley: the Garden of the Sleeping Giant

The Garden of the Sleeping Giant sits on Wailoko Road in Sabeto, in the foothills below the ridge whose outline gives the garden its name. It is about a 20-minute drive from the apartment, and the garden's own site puts it about 10 minutes north of Nadi Airport. It was started in 1977 by Raymond Burr, star of Perry Mason and Ironside, and today covers almost 20 hectares with more than a thousand orchid species, according to the garden. Tourism Fiji describes lily ponds, landscaped lawns and a canopy-covered boardwalk into the rainforest.

Ticket (garden rates page, 27 Oct 2026)Price
AdultFJ$35
Child, 6 to 15 yearsFJ$15
Child under 6Free
Family, 2 adults and 2 childrenFJ$85

The garden says fees include VAT, it is open daily from 9am to 5pm and no booking is needed. One Tourism Fiji page says it closes at 1pm on Sundays, so on a Sunday ring ahead on +679 999 3506 before you drive out.

Worked example: two adults and two children aged 6 to 15 would pay 2 x FJ$35 + 2 x FJ$15 = FJ$100 on single tickets. The family ticket is FJ$85, a saving of FJ$15. A group of six adults pays 6 x FJ$35 = FJ$210.

Allow about an hour for a slow loop. The canopy-covered boardwalk helps on a hot or drizzly day.

Sabeto Valley: hot springs and mud pools

A few minutes from the garden are the geothermal mud pools of the Sabeto Valley, listed as about 20 minutes' drive from the apartment. Tourism Fiji's first-timer guide sums it up: slather on the mud, bake in the sun, then rinse off in a series of warm pools, and finish with a bobo massage, the traditional Fijian massage.

There is more than one operator in the valley. Sabeto Hot Springs and Mud Pool is on Wailoko Road. Its own website lists self-drive entry at FJ$30 per adult and FJ$25 for children aged 5 to 11, with under-5s free, open daily from 8am to 5pm, and an optional massage at extra cost. Tourism Fiji's budget guide also names the Tifajek mud pools, and notes the pools are usually included in Nadi sightseeing tours, or reached by local bus or taxi.

  • Wear a swimsuit you do not mind getting muddy.
  • Take off rings and watches first.
  • Bring a towel, water and a change of clothes for the drive back.
  • Pair it with the garden: garden first in the cooler morning, mud second.

Adventure: ziplines, quad bikes, skydiving and flights

Several adventure operators work from the Nadi area, so ask each one about pick-up when you book. Tourism Fiji lists these options:

Ziplines

Sleeping Giant Zip in Sabeto has 5 ziplines, with packages that can include waterfall tours and lunch. Zip Fiji at Momi has 16 ziplines with longer and higher runs, plus optional cave abseiling.

Quad bike tours

Go Dirty's popular quad bike tour heads for the hills past cane fields and pine forest, departing twice daily at 9:30am and 1:30pm. Tourism Fiji says drivers must be 16 or older and hold a licence, and options include sightseeing stops or a village visit.

Tandem skydiving

Skydive Fiji jumps over Nadi or the Mamanuca Islands from 10,000 to 13,000 feet, with up to 70 seconds of freefall depending on the package.

Scenic helicopter flights

Short flights run 10 to 30 minutes, and charters can land on remote islands.

From November, book these for mornings, keep a spare day for weather reschedules, and ask each operator about age, weight and health limits.

Culture: Fijian shows, villages and kava

  • VOU Fiji Untold: a dinner and stage show at the VOU Hub on Denarau Road. VOU lists FJ$169 for adults and FJ$99 for children, with arrival around 6pm, the show at 7pm and return transfers from Nadi-area hotels included. Its listing names Thursday and Sunday shows while another page says Wednesday to Sunday, so check the booking calendar.
  • Fiji Culture Village: Tourism Fiji describes a day tour from 9:30am to 2pm with a light lunch and a night tour from 4:20pm to 8:30pm with a lovo dinner, both with a kava ceremony, meke dance and a guided village walk.
  • Village etiquette: dress modestly, follow your host's lead at a kava ceremony, and ask before taking photos of people.

For the cost of a family night out, the arithmetic is simple. Two adults and two children at VOU pay 2 x FJ$169 + 2 x FJ$99 = FJ$536, including transfers.

Island day trips from Port Denarau

Several Mamanuca Islands are close enough to Port Denarau for a day trip. Tourism Fiji notes Malamala Beach Club is a 25-minute boat trip from Port Denarau, and lists day options such as South Sea Island, Tivua Island, catamaran cruises and floating bars like Cloud 9 and Seventh Heaven.

In the wet season, choose a trip with a clear weather and refund policy, keep a back-up day, and pack reef-safe sunscreen and a hat.

Our Mamanuca island day trips guide compares the main boats, times and prices in detail.

Further out: day trips worth the drive

These are beyond the 20-minute radius, so treat them as a full day each.

  • Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park: on Queens Road near Sigatoka on the Coral Coast. The National Trust of Fiji lists opening hours of 8am to 4:30pm daily (closed 1pm to 2pm), open on public holidays, with adult entry of $10 and children 5 and under free. There is a one-hour trail and a two-hour walk with dune climbing. Nearly half of the dunes landscape has been protected since 1989.
  • Abaca village and Koroyanitu National Heritage Park: about an hour from Nadi by car, according to Tourism Fiji, with a two to three-hour return walk to waterfalls and swimming holes.
  • Natadola Beach: a Coral Coast beach that appears on Lonely Planet's list of day trips from Nadi. Check the drive time and conditions before you go.

Free and low-cost things to do in Nadi

Not every good day in Nadi needs a ticket. Walk the sand from Sailors Beach at sunrise or sunset, browse the Nadi Town markets, stroll Port Denarau Marina as the island boats come in, and cook a Fijian-style dinner from Namaka Market produce. The shared pool and gym, open 6am to 10pm, cover a hot afternoon.

Nadi in November and December 2026: dates to know

The public holiday dates are from the Fiji Government's official list. Tourism Fiji says the Vuda Beach Market is held at First Landing Resort near Nadi on the second Saturday of each month, selling handmade goods, street food and fresh produce; we could not find a 2026 schedule from the organiser, so confirm before you go.

Weather, cyclone season and rainy-day plans

November is the start of Fiji's wet season, so expect heat, humidity and more rain than in the cooler months. The Fiji Meteorological Service says the tropical cyclone season in the southwest Pacific runs from November to April, with peak activity in Fiji usually from January to March. Its outlook for the 2026-27 season expects two to three tropical cyclones to pass through Fiji's waters, with one to two reaching severe intensity, which it calls near-normal activity for Fiji.

What that means for a holiday: a seasonal outlook is not a forecast for your dates. Keep an eye on the Fiji Meteorological Service, buy travel insurance that covers weather disruption, and book tours and boats with clear refund rules.

On a wet day, try the temple, the markets, Denarau's shops and restaurants, the mud pools or a VOU show. Our Nadi wet season guide has month-by-month rainfall and more indoor ideas.

Why Seema's Holiday Home suits a things-to-do-in-Nadi trip

A busy Nadi itinerary works better from a base that is close to everything and easy to come back to. Seema's Holiday Home is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment in the Wailoaloa area, a 5-minute walk to Sailors Beach and a 15-minute drive to Nadi International Airport.

  • Central to the list above: Port Denarau and Denarau Island about 12 minutes by car, Nadi Town and the temple about 15 minutes, and Sabeto about 20 minutes.
  • Free covered parking for one car: useful if you hire a car to do Sabeto, Denarau and Nadi Town on your own schedule. Road parking is also available.
  • Somewhere to cool off: air-conditioning in the living area and all three bedrooms, plus shared pool and gym access from 6am to 10pm.
  • Easy after a mud pool or beach day: two bathrooms with showers, a washing machine and a clothes dryer, with shampoo, conditioner, body wash and towels supplied.
  • Self check-in with a lockbox: check-in is from 2pm and check-out by 12pm, which suits late flights and early tours.

Guests rate it 5.0 from 16 reviews. One family said it was "close to supermarket and the adjacent Wailoaloa Beach and its hotels", and another wrote it was "close to wailoaloa beach & restaurants, which was nice for walks & watching the sunset".

Who this stay suits and how a group uses it

The apartment sleeps 6 in three queen bedrooms, all on one level, with inflatable beds for 2 more by request, up to 8 guests. That makes it a good fit for:

  • Families: parents in one room, children in the others, and a pool for the hottest part of the day.
  • Friends or two couples: three separate queen rooms and two bathrooms mean less queueing before a 9:30am quad bike pick-up.
  • Multi-generation trips: the building has lift access.

The fully equipped kitchen (fridge, oven, microwave, dishwasher) and 6-person dining table let you cook some nights and eat out on others. A smart TV and Wi-Fi help on a rainy evening.

A four-day plan for things to do in Nadi

Day 1: arrive and walk to the beach

Check in from 2pm, unpack, swim in the pool, then walk 5 minutes to Sailors Beach for sunset and dinner at one of the beachfront spots.

Day 2: Nadi Town and the temple

Drive 15 minutes to the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple early, with covered shoulders and legs. Browse the produce and handicraft markets, eat lunch in town, and spend the afternoon by the pool.

Day 3: Sabeto Valley

Start at the Garden of the Sleeping Giant when it opens at 9am, then cross to the mud pools. Add a zipline in the afternoon if the weather holds, or rest at the apartment.

Day 4: Port Denarau or an island

Take a morning boat from Port Denarau for an island day, or keep it relaxed with mini golf, the waterpark and a marina dinner. Check-out on your last day is by 12pm.

Getting there and getting around

  • Entry: Australians and New Zealanders get a visitor permit on arrival (see the FAQ below for passport and ticket rules).
  • Airport: Nadi International Airport is a 15-minute drive from the apartment.
  • Taxis and hire cars: the easiest way to reach Nadi Town, Denarau and Sabeto. Confirm the fare before you set off.
  • Buses: cashless only, with an eTransport card under the Land Transport Authority's "No Card, No Ride" policy.

For airport timing and first-day tips, see our Nadi arrival and departure guide, and for travelling with children read the Nadi family holiday guide.

Booking tips for November and December

  • Book holiday weekends early: the Diwali holiday on Monday 9 November and the 25 to 28 December Christmas long weekend are popular with local and overseas travellers.
  • Read the cancellation policy: for this apartment, cancelling more than 30 days before arrival returns 100% of the booking charges, more than 7 days returns 50%, and within 7 days there is no refund. Pair that with travel insurance in cyclone season.
  • Ask about extra guests: if you are bringing 7 or 8 people, request the inflatable beds when you book.
  • Plan the car: one free covered space is included, so a single hire car works well.

FAQs About Things To Do In Nadi

What is there to do in Nadi, Fiji?

Nadi has beaches at Wailoaloa and Sailors Beach, the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple, produce and handicraft markets, Port Denarau Marina, the Garden of the Sleeping Giant, Sabeto mud pools, ziplines, cultural shows and island day trips. Many sit within about 20 minutes' drive of the Wailoaloa Beach area, so you can mix sightseeing with beach time.

Is Nadi worth staying in, or should I go straight to the islands?

Nadi is worth two to four days if you want culture, food and day trips as well as beaches. You can visit the temple, the Sabeto Valley and Denarau, then take a day boat to the Mamanuca Islands from Port Denarau without packing up and moving. It also suits travellers who want a cheaper, self-catering base.

Can you swim at Wailoaloa Beach?

You can paddle and swim at Wailoaloa, and Lonely Planet notes calm water, but Tourism Fiji says the beach is better known for its social scene than as a top swimming spot. Many visitors use it for walks, sunsets and beach bars, and head to the islands for clear water and snorkelling. Check local conditions before swimming.

What should I wear to the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple?

Wear clothing that covers your shoulders and legs, and be ready to take your shoes off at the entrance. Photos are limited to the outside of the temple. Fiji Traveller notes visitors are asked to enter only if they have not eaten meat that day. A small entry fee applies, and guided tours run every half hour from 8:30am.

How much does the Garden of the Sleeping Giant cost?

The garden's rates page lists FJ$35 for adults, FJ$15 for children aged 6 to 15, free entry for children under 6, and FJ$85 for a family of two adults and two children, with VAT included. It lists opening hours of 9am to 5pm daily and says no booking is needed. Ring ahead on Sundays.

Is November or December a good time to visit Nadi?

It can be, if you plan around the weather. November starts the wet season and the cyclone season, which runs to April. The Fiji Meteorological Service expects two to three cyclones in Fiji's waters in 2026-27. Plan outdoor activities for mornings, keep a spare day, and buy travel insurance that covers weather disruption.

What public holidays are coming up in Fiji?

The Fiji Government lists Diwali on Monday 9 November 2026, Christmas Day on Friday 25 December and Boxing Day on Monday 28 December. Some shops and services close or shorten hours on these days, and resorts get busier, so book restaurants and tours early around the Christmas long weekend.

What can I do in Nadi when it rains?

Good wet-day options include the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple, the Nadi markets, Port Denarau's covered shops and restaurants, the Sabeto mud pools, a VOU dinner show, or an afternoon at the apartment with air-conditioning, Wi-Fi and a smart TV. Keep outdoor plans flexible and move them to a drier morning where you can.

Show 2 more questionsShow fewer questions
Do Australians need a visa for Fiji?

No visa is needed before travel for Australian or New Zealand passport holders. Fiji's Ministry of Foreign Affairs says visa-exempt visitors receive a visitor permit on arrival for up to four months. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your entry date, and you need a return or onward ticket.

How do I get around Nadi without a car?

Taxis are the simplest option for Nadi Town, Denarau and Sabeto, and some operators, such as VOU, include transfers from Nadi-area hotels. Public buses are cashless under the Land Transport Authority's "No Card, No Ride" policy, so you need an eTransport card. From Wailoaloa, the beach and several restaurants are within a short walk.
